A Night on the Town Part 11

When I was a kid, my dad said his list of priorities in descending order was, "God, family, friends, school/work, football."

It's a decent framework, but I found it somewhat lacking since power and money didn't make the list. After all, love and good intentions can't feed a family. Those things can only make the family feel a little better as starvation takes hold.

It might be a slightly pessimistic viewpoint (which is odd because I am one of life's greatest optimists), but I think power is the most important thing in life. In my worldview, power is far different from domination. Power is the ability to do things. The ability to make choices is dependent upon the power to execute them. If you have no power, you have no choice. If you have no choice, you have no freedom. If you have no freedom, you cannot worship your God, support your family, have any friends, go to work, or watch football. Every good thing in life requires the power to choose it.

What's your most important thing?
